Welcome to TEAMtalk's General Your Say, where we discuss everything to do with the beautiful game.
Fabio Capello's second-string England side put on a first-class display in a fine victory over Germany in Berlin.
A confident and impressive performance was capped by a deserved late winner from John Terry, who made up for his part in the monumental mix-up that gave the Germans a way back into the match. It would be churlish though to focus on that one negative in a night full of positives for Capello.
England were solid in defence, fast and threatening in attack, especially in the first half, but most of all, it was in midfield the visitors looked especially strong.
Stewart Downing turned in a superb display, providing the assists for both goals, while Shaun Wright-Phillips looked a threat all evening.
Michael Carrick did what Michael Carrick does, effortlessly and very effectively while Gareth Bary continued to show why the first choice England midfield must consist of him and one of Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard.
It was a mixed night for the rest of the home nations, with Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland all going down to defeats at home but Craig Bellamy's strike gave Wales a fine 1-0 win over Denmark in Copenhagen.

Quality weekend in store football wise. Villa/Utd is the pick of the crop, although utd's record is amazing against villa i dont think the devils will cruise by any means. I fully expect Man City to beat Arsenal, I wonder who wenger and Gallas will blame for this week's loss? Stoke/WBA serves as a decent MIDLANDS derby, scrappy, gritty game. There's goals in that one. Straight forward wins for pool and chels and I reckon bolton might suprise borough. No idea who cov are playing (seriously) dont really care. My faith in city has died, I should really change my user name? Homzy, working 'ard?
The editor says.... As always mate! Come and support the Mighty Potters if you're after a new team. Homzy

ManUtd4ever, I love watching Ronaldo as he's amazing, but Messi is probably as good, possibly better. That's not a slight on Ronaldo - have you watched much La Liga? The guy is simply incredible. I've never seen a player like him. He's like the kid in the playground who runs around everyone, but he can do it at the top level to such a degree that I've never seen anyone do. Ronaldo's great, but so is Messi.
Adrain Durham and many callers were funny last night- they were actually saying what i had been saying about Gerrard- they proved Carrick was technically better than Gerrard- yes Carrick- so Liverpool fans please wake up and smell the coffee- Gerrard is not the player you think he is- confirmed!!
fadlyshah (Liverpool fan) Posted Today @ 02:29...I would suggest the clue is in the scoreline mate, the chances are if your playing for the team on the receiving end of a 6-2 drubbing, your not going to have much chance to shine
Silverpoet, there's a good reason Liverpool will probably fall short, and it's nothing to do with the quality, character or mentality of your players. It's simply that barely any of your players have experience of a title run - and you're up against the two sides who've won it for the last four years. You'll be up there, and next year you may win it, but probably not this year. You really do need the experience of having challenged to see you through at the end, that's vital. Name me a side who have won the league without having gone close the season before? Man Utd fought in 2005 before winning in 2006. Chelsea came close to us in 2004 before winning in 2005. We came close in 1997 before winning in 1998. Blackburn in 1995 after being close in 94, Man Utd in 1993 after having come close in 1992. It's a theme and it is not a coincidence. How many of your players have that experience? Torres? No. Gerrard? No. Carragher? No. Reina? No. And I can't think of any else, possibly Babel at Ajax, Alonso at Real Sociedad...these are your key players, your leaders too.
Lets face it Arsenal are a joke, Wenger ran out of ideas long ago Gallas is right to talk out possibly suffer same fate as Roy Keane (Legend) for speaking out but Arsenal may beat big teams occassionally and be there or there abouts top 5-6 in PL but thats as good as it gets, Arsenal are slightly less funny now with out their German keeper but with a lovely stadium, washed-up manager and a team of plodders whats on the horizon? Even Adibayo looks like he's fed-up of falling over for penalties and Van Persie looks like an Arsenal Player now, so changes need to be made, if you want to compete with teams like Spurs or do anything in Europe, anyway god bless you Arsenal you make the PL seem possible for any team.
SAFdegreat (Manchester United fan) - You shouldn't post about thing you know nothing about, as you obviously haven't watched Liverpool this season, Alons has been our best player he has controlled pretty much every game we have played, last season he was not on great form through a season broken up by injury but this season he has been immense.
jamese9930 (Aston Villa fan) - How many times in the last 18 months have Barry, Gerrard and Lampard played together.
Chelsea fans must love having Scolari. He's such an antithesis of Mourinho...attractive football, attacking football, never complains, even when he has a valid complaint. He's the example for the rest...you can't not admire a manager who passes up the chance to complain when he easily could. That's the mark of a classy character.
Most of those quotes are more recent than 5 years ago. The SAF one was post "Chelsea saga" the Tierry Henry one was after he moved to Barca, the Viera one was summer 2007, The Kaka and Ancilotti ones were after the 2005 CL final, and the Mourinho one was also 2005 none of these are 5 years old and all are after you original statement made about Gerrard four years ago, as you keep telling us.
Smoggydunc (Middlesbrough fan)- You keep saying these 5 players repeating it over and over again but you have been proven over and over again to be wrong and these players are in fact playing in their correct position but you never respond to this. The more you repeat something does not make it right it just makes you an idiot more often.
Rafarules - Whilst I agree with you that the argument should now be put to bed, I am astounded that you say we are both right. Thats impossible. Your 2nd comment that goal difference only comes into play at the end of the season is also rubbish. Goal difference is in play all the time - that is the very reason why cheslki are top and Liverpool are 2nd. Its like saying actual points only come into play at the end of the season. Liverpool have had a tremendous start to the season but not quite as good as chelski - why can't you all accept it ?
Although im nt Gallas`s biggest fan, I get the impression the guy is being used like a bit of scapegoat. Lets not forget Arsenal always usually have the cream of the crop in terms of youngsters. Just because they might be good at football, doesnt mean they are mature in other aspects !! U can imagine the blame game culture, their will be a lot of ego`s floating around that dressing room. The captain for one, but also Van Persie, Bentner, Adebayor - No way should Gallas (a player just come over from their arch rivals), be captain of the club ... but he didnt pick himself !
stefton8 (Liverpool fan) - Smoggy will never admit he is wrong, he is so deluded, he has been corrected by Liverpool fans, fans of other clubs, just about everyone in world football has a different opinion to him and have been quoted but he still carries on his little crusade, backed up the the paxton. Two peas in a pod, except peas have better football knowledge.
silverpoet - you may be correct about Liverpool not faltering and that you have players still to improve. I think the point you are missing is that (1) Liverpool have not stayed the course for a few years and some posters just see this happening again - probably nothing to substantiate this but it is the form of the past. (2) In the past Liverpool have been out of the EPL race reasonably early and so Rafa has been able to focus on one competition - normally the CL. Assuming that you do stay the course then this would be potentially new ground for him and he would be expected to use his squad more - which does not look as strong as some other clubs. Obviously, no one really knows and I have just played devils advocate against your views - that is not to say they are right or wrong. Only at the end of the season will any of us really know. KTBFFH
Gus Poyet - Cheers! COYS!
Good grief... Not the Gerraaard Lumpard debate again... Oh... Winters here, time to hibernate.
malaycake (Liverpool fan) Posted 20/11/2008 @ 16:19: Think Smoggy might but I don't think, as great a player as he is, he would fit into the style of play United have at the moment. A few years ago maybe!
Silverpoet (Liverpool fan), fair enough on you believing you have the character to challenge for the title but after the last few seasons have unravelled, dont you think fans of other clubs have reason to doubt your teams title credentials? In 2003 you were top by December or January if I remember right, last year you started amazingly and United started poorly, both times United took the league and you were nowhere to be seen. In a months time United wouldve played all 10 of their hardest away matches of the season, Liverpool still need to play both games v Arsenal, need to come to Old Trafford and have a home game v Chelsea (never an easy game), I expect you to drop some points there, as well as the odd 0-0 against weaker opposition when things stop going all in your own favour (as they are now). As Bryan Robson put it, everything is falling right for you at the moment and you keep scoring in the last few minutes to win games, but the true test is in those games where the luck runs out and nothing goes right, if you manage to take 3 points from those games then Ill say that Liverpool are title challengers. As I see it youve only had about 4 matches this season were things didnt fall perfectly for you, away to Spurs, home to Stoke and the away match against Standard Liege. If United are within 8 points of Liverpool (even after our game in hand is played) by the end of December then I see United (or Chelsea if theyre still close to the top) challenging for the title, with Liverpool a very safe 3rd and Arsenal and Villa battling it out for 4th.
Silverpoet...yawn...you're absolutely right. I think they should just abandon the PL and CL altogether, and take the trophies straight over to Anfield. :)
rafarules (Liverpool fan) Posted 20/11/2008 @ 15:55 : I appreciate your attempt to get some decorum between Rob & Paxman but I dont agree with you that it is only at the end of the season that it applies. If Liverpools goal differance was better they would be above Chelsea in the League table. Otherwise would Chelsea be above Liverpool if they were Joint Top because of Alphabet position?
I see that NUFC's next train crash is looking to depart the station with the Daily Express today reporting that Shearer has already chosen his backroom staff, mind boggling really mind boggling, still if its what the Geordie hordes want........... whats another 50 years in the wilderness!!!!
people still criticise ronaldo. yes, he went missing against brazil. but seriously, which other player in the world could have scored either of those 2 free kicks last weekend against stoke. your views please?

Posted Today @ 09:41 View all worms's postsskywalker05 (Manchester United fan)- Ronaldo's freekicks last weekend were not all that special. The 1st the keeper should have dealt with, straight down the middle, and the 2nd was comical, beaten at his near post... very poor goalkeeping, and he will not be happy looking back on them. if vander sar was beaten like that, would u be happy??? i highly doubt it. You'd be calling for a new keeper. But dont get me wrong, he can hit amazing free kicks, but he's like roberto carlos, very very hit and miss.
The editor says.... As a Stoke fan I've got to say that I was disappointed with Sorensen on both free-kicks. But you have to give credit to Ronaldo - look at the way the first one moved at the last moment. The second was hit with pace and right into the corner too so I say hats off to the boy - he's a special player. Homzy
